COVER LETTER

As an academically dedicated honors student, I have never set a goal that I didn’t think was reachable if I truly applied myself, and that extends towards each of my personal ambitions. Despite having an involved schedule, my attention has always remained stubbornly fixed on visual arts.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who knows me that I ended up choosing creative writing as my major. It was a well-deliberated decision that I ended up electing for a number of reasons. I've felt drawn to the subject since early childhood, evident not only in my enthusiasm participating in the field, but also in my academic writing merit, stretching back as long as I can remember. Many would describe my childhood love for making and reading stories as borderline neurotic. Throughout my attendance as a student up to now, I have done well in every literature class, advanced or otherwise.

This interest is certainly not through any lack of enjoyment. I have always been a writing hobbyist, and enjoy creating and consuming both fictitious and nonfictitious works recreationally, involving myself within local writing communities and working alongside other artists to build and refine my skills. Of these creative mutuals and friends, many have pursued this major, and recommended it to me personally.

There are also a number of compelling careers that a creative writing degree would jump-start me towards. I have always aspired to become a self-publishing author, although I am aptly aware that freelance work is not necessarily the most dependable or realistic option to pursue. I am also excited about the options of working as an editor, copywriter, email marketing specialist, ghostwriter, or screenwriter. Songwriting specifically has also piqued my interest, inspiring me towards this next path even more.

I've spent my life overcoming challenges and honing the mechanisms in my mental toolkit to better prepare myself for the world and all of its future challenges, turning me into the person I am today. I am an openly queer, neurodivergent, hard-of-hearing individual with a strong work ethic and commitment towards what I am passionate about. I am committed to being an accessible resource for people in situations both similar and different to mine. I am committed to pursuing information and protecting people within my communities. I am committed to growing into a person that can express myself creatively to my most total and honed ability. I am committed to growing into someone who can be proud of herself and her contributions. That is the future I want for myself.

I've spent my whole life carrying a love for expression and the exploration of personal creative authenticity. This path has led me into the person I am today; an individual who is constantly inspired and changed by everything around herself, and desires to follow her aspirations to the end. I am more than willing to work my hardest going forward if it means paving a bright and fulfilling future where I can work and create freely.
